Creating Connections
Membership in WIMOs is here to educate, engage, and elevate women in maritime operations. Members gain access to educational programming, mentorship opportunities, industry events, and hands-on experiences that build both technical knowledge and leadership skills. Just as importantly, WIMOs creates a strong sense of connection within the maritime industry, helping women expand their networks, learn from one another, and develop the confidence and resources needed to thrive throughout their careers.
Qualifications for Membership
WIMOs membership is open to women who are actively employed in the maritime industry. Women with equivalent experience through military service, nonprofit organizations, or maritime education are also eligible, and exceptions may be considered for graduates of Maritime Academies. WIMOs membership is designed for women whose work directly supports maritime operations.
Cost of Membership

WIMOs Unique
As a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, WIMOs is able to invest in meaningful educational opportunities for its members. Through grants and organizational support, WIMOs provides thousands of dollars each year in programming such as lunch & learns, operational tours, professional lessons, business etiquette training, and industry webinars. Members have access to PRYOR Learning, a free, grant-funded platform offering flexible, high-impact training in professional development, maritime topics, and essential technology skills. These experiences go beyond traditional social networking, equipping members with practical skills and industry knowledge that strengthen both their careers and the maritime companies they support.

Can men be members?
At this time, WIMOs is an organization dedicated to supporting women in maritime. While membership is limited to women, men are welcome to participate in our annual fundraisers and local events.
What are the prerequisites for membership?
Membership is open to any woman who is employed in the maritime industry in an operations role or has equivalent safety, military, educational, support, or non-profit experience. Exceptions might be made for women who have graduated from a Maritime Academy, have had experience in the United States Coast Guard, or have equivalent military experience. If employment status changes, the member will serve the rest of the year as a member, and membership will be reviewed at the beginning of the next fiscal year.
What types of events does WIMOs host?
We host a variety of events that support professional development, industry education, leadership growth, networking, member engagement, and community impact. These may include maritime industry tours, technical and career development workshops, leadership training, networking and recruitment events, social and wellness activities, industry fundraisers, conference participation, maritime industry gatherings, and volunteer or charitable initiatives.
Does it cost extra to go to events?
We host events designed to educate, engage, and elevate our members. Most programming is included in membership dues, and when there are additional costs, we work to secure discounted rates for our members.

Do WIMOs offer volunteer opportunities?
Yes. Every WIMOs chapter participates in WIMOs-organized volunteer initiatives throughout the year, whether that’s supporting a local food bank, volunteering at a women’s shelter, or participating in a beach or waterway cleanup. Each chapter plans at least one philanthropic volunteer event annually for its members.
WIMOs also offers volunteer opportunities at many of our hosted fundraisers. Members can additionally serve on committees and help us educate, engage, and elevate our members and the maritime industry.
How do you become a board member?
WIMOs has both appointed and elected board positions. Appointed board positions are selected by the National or Chapter Board to help fulfill a specific organizational need or skill gap. Elected board members are chosen through a member nomination and voting process.
The election process includes:
- Nominations remain open for 30 days, and any member in good standing may nominate themselves or another eligible member.
- Nominees are contacted to confirm their interest and submit a short biography.
- A ballot, along with candidate information, is shared with eligible members.
- Voting remains open for 10 days.
- Candidates receiving the most votes are elected to serve on the board.

What kind of educational opportunities do members have?
WIMOs currently offers complimentary Pryor Learning courses to all members. We also provide Lunch & Learn sessions and educational webinars throughout the year. ( A Lunch and Learn is an informal educational session held during the lunch hour that provides members with opportunities to gain industry knowledge, develop professional skills, and engage with subject matter experts and peers.)
How many events does WIMOs have per year?
While the number varies by chapter, WIMOs hosted 154 events across all chapters in 2025. Members can typically expect one to two events per month from their local chapter, and the National Chapter hosts a monthly webinar.
