How the program works
-
Mentors must be a WIMOs Member who is available to volunteer her time and is willing to share her industry knowledge and experiences
-
• Women who are contemplating or starting a career in the maritime industry
• WIMOs and non-WIMOs members
• Female active military and veterans
• Female college students
-
First, protégés and mentors must complete their application in Together, a mentoring software.
Next, the Mentoring Program’s matching committee will meet at the beginning of each month to review applications for all protégés and mentors.
Then, through Together, the committee will pair a protégé with her mentor.
Lastly, all mentoring sessions can be scheduled and mentoring relationship resources can be accessed in Together.
-
The mentor-protégé relationship can last as little as a few months or as long as several years, depending on the desires of the mentor and/or protégé.
Each pair will set their own meeting cadence. There are no requirements for meeting, but it is recommended that mentors meet with protégés at least once a month . This will vary based on the needs/wishes/time constraints of the mentor and protege.
-
• A person can be both a protégé and mentor
• Matching via online questionnaire
• A protégé can be matched with more than one mentor, if she requests so
• Protégés and mentors will not be matched if they work at the same company
• Mentors and protégés can either be local or from different geographic areas
• Mentoring can last for many years or only a few months, depending on the needs of the protégé and/or time commitment of the mentor
• Mentoring can end at any time for any reason at the discretion of the protégé and/or mentor
• There should be a means for both protégé and mentor feedback
