Who We Are

Women in Maritime Operations (WIMOs) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We are dedicated to recruiting, retaining, advancing, and promoting women in the maritime industry through sharing knowledge and continuing education. WIMOs does this through our member benefits, which are listed below. WIMOs caters to women in maritime operations because there is a lack of female representation. Worldwide, women make up less than 30% of the maritime workforce. To foster a sense of belonging, WIMOs provides access to a peer group of women who work in the industry and can relate to the day-to-day personal and professional challenges that may arise. WIMOs was founded in 2017 in New Orleans, LA. In November 2023, WIMOs had 950+ members representing 250+ companies across 12 chapters and seed chapters.

Our Motto is simple: Educate. Engage. Elevate. women in their careers so they can excel and thrive. In 2023, WIMOs hosted 83 in-person and virtual events throughout the country. Over one-third of our events were committed to educating our members.

How We Operate

As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, WIMOs maintains alignment with the Better Business Bureau by investing at least 65% of our budget into Educating, Engaging, and Elevating our members. Our main sources of income have been fundraisers and membership dues.

Individual Membership Dues

Companies have three options to enable employees from their companies to become a WIMOs member. Companies can either pay each member’s annual dues, opt for corporate dues, or select an optional sponsorship package.

Corporate Dues

The annual corporate dues rate is based on the company’s total number of employees because our membership data shows that companies with more employees yield more WIMOs members. The following dues structure is effective for new companies starting January 1, 2024. The new dues structure will be effective for existing corporate sponsors on the scheduled annual renewal date.

Optional Sponsorship Packages

In lieu of corporate dues, we invite companies to consider the below annual sponsorship levels. Platinum, Gold, and Silver are Member Company options. Member Companies can be any company that has a maritime operations component. Bronze is a Non-Member Company option; therefore companies whose focus is outside of maritime operations (e.g. law firms, consulting firms, insurance brokers, etc). Each sponsorship level contributes to two funds.

  1. Education, Membership, and Administration (EMA) Fund

  2. Event Fund (A La Carte Event Menu)

The EMA Fund includes annual corporate dues, contributes to educational events/webinars, and helps support the running of the organization’s back office. The Event Fund can be used towards any/all of the WIMOs fundraisers. For all fundraisers, annual sponsors receive discounted pricing compared to individual event sponsors and will have first-booking preferences.

Each Sponsorship Level has a set Event Fund amount. Sponsors can decide their fundraiser event mix each year. If the sponsors’ desired event mix exceeds the Event Fund amount, then items can be purchased a la carte.
