Women In Maritime Operations (WIMOs) is proud to announce the launch of its Bayou Chapter in Houma, Louisiana, marking another milestone in the organization’s continued growth and commitment to supporting women in the maritime industry. With a membership of more than 1,300 maritime professionals across the United States and internationally, WIMOs continues to expand opportunities for women to connect, grow, and lead.
The Bayou Region plays a critical role in the U.S. maritime economy, supporting offshore energy, vessel operations, shipbuilding, logistics, and marine services. Many local families have worked in the maritime industry for generations, making the region a natural fit for WIMOs’ continued growth.
Since hosting its inaugural event in May 2025, the Bayou Chapter has quickly gained momentum across the region, and currently serves 48 members.
The chapter has hosted two events to date and has a recruiting event scheduled for June 30th. The upcoming event does not require WIMOs membership, and additional event information can be found at wimos.org/events.
The Bayou Chapter complements WIMOs’ Southern Louisiana (SOLA) Chapter by expanding accessibility for women who may face challenges traveling long distances due to demanding careers and personal responsibilities. Together, the chapters strengthen access to maritime education, networking, and leadership development throughout South Louisiana.
